While regular weigh-ins can be an effective way to keep track of your efforts to lose weight, you should also consider keeping a journal. You can use this journal to not only track how much you weigh during each of your weigh-ins, but also provide some other notes that will help to keep you informed and dedicated to your efforts. Buy a small notebook from your local office supply store and keep it in your purse or pocket so that you can add to it whenever there's a need. Here are some things that you can write in the journal.
What You Eat
Tracking everything that you eat when you're attempting to lose weight can be an effective approach. Sometimes, you may be tempted to grab a candy bar at the gas station or take a donut from the lunch room at work. However, when you commit to always logging everything that you eat, you might not want to see the words "candy bar" and "donut" staring at you from your journal in the coming days and weeks — especially if you don't reach your goal at the end of the week. Not wanting to log these unhealthy foods into your journal may be enough of an incentive not to eat them.
How You Feel
Noting how you feel after certain meals or activities can also be advantageous. Even if you're staying away from sweets, you may occasionally have a heavy meal such as pasta. Noting your feelings afterward can serve as a valuable tool in the future. For example, you might write that you felt heavy and lethargic after eating such a meal, so much so that you skipped your workout. The next time you have a craving for pasta, you can then look for this page in your journal to recall how you felt last time. This may compel you to eat something healthier.
What You're Happy About
Losing weight can often be an uphill battle. At times, you'll be discouraged at the speed of your progress and you may consider giving up. To combat such occurrences, it's worthwhile to list happy thoughts in your journal. For example, you might write that your friends complimented you on your progress or that you were able to buy a smaller size of pants for the first time in years. The next time you're discouraged, you can flip through these happy comments and get energized about your efforts again.Share
