3 Different Types of Breast Implants

Posted on: 27 September 2019

If you want to get breast implants, it is important to realize that there are different types of breast implants to choose from. This difference largely comes from the materials you can get implanted in your body in order to change the shape of your breasts. The different materials also offer different price points, safety levels, and outcomes.

Breast Implant Material #1: Saline Breast Implants

Saline breast implants have been used as a breast implant material for an extended period of time. They are one of the safest types of implant because the implant itself is filled with salt water that is sterile. If for any reason the breast implant were to develop a leak in the shell, the saline can be safely absorbed and expelled from your body without causing you any harm.

Saline breast implants, from an appearance perspective, will make your breast feel firm. Each of your breasts will appear to have the same shape as well.

Similar to saline breast implants are structured saline breast implants. They also contain sterile water as the base of the implant, but the inner structure of the implant is made slightly differently, in order to provide a softer and more natural feeling to your breasts.

Breast Implant Material #2: Gummy Bear Breast Implants

Form-stable breast implants are more commonly called gummy bear breast implants. With gummy bear breast implants, the implants are filled with a thick silicone gel that will maintain its shape over time.

Gummy bear breast implants have a unique shape. They are made to project outward near the base of the implant, and taper near the top of the implant. The implant has to be placed correctly. If the implant moves around over time, your breasts will look strange, and a follow-up surgery will be necessary.

Gummy bear implants tend to be really firm with just a little give to them when touched.

Breast Implant Material #3: Smooth Breast Implants

Smooth breast implants are inserted into your breasts in a different manner. They are made to move inside the implant shell or pocket. As the implant has the room to move around within the shell, this can help achieve a more natural look to your breasts. Your breasts will not always stay the same shape but will move and jiggle in a more natural manner.

The four different types of breast implants outlined above are not an exhaustive list of all the different types of materials that are used for breast implants. Be sure to talk to your plastic surgeon and discuss what breast augmentation material is best for your body.
